The Plant-Based Protein Myth: Can You Pass This Test?
Your body is a building project, and protein is the structure to make the fortress (muscle). But you need bricks (amino acids), in particular 20 different amino acids to build the protein(structure) that can build muscle (fortress). While your body can make the 11 “non-essential” amino acids (AA), the other 9 AA are "Essential" (EAAs) and must come from your diet.
Here's the catch: most plant-based foods are "incomplete proteins," meaning they're low in one or more key EAAs. The secret to unlocking their potential for full muscle-building power is food pairing!
For instance, grains are often low in the AA Lysine, while beans & legumes are low in the AA Methionine. When you eat them together, they create a "complete protein"with all the essentials to “complete” the building blocks to build! Now your body can make the “protein package “ ready for muscle building. (otherwise you have a bunch of odd shaped bricks laying around (i.e. amino acids floating around). And you know what happens when your body can’t build muscle….YIKES!
